HBO revealed Thursday (July 25) the premiere date for the five-episode final season of David Simon's "Treme."
According to HitFix.com, Season 4 of the New Orleans-set drama will begin airing on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9/8 p.m. CT, one week after "Boardwalk Empire" concludes its latest season.
The episodes may be slightly longer to compensate for the abbreviated season (the first three seasons contained 10 or 11 episodes), including an extra-long series finale.
The news was announced by CEO Richard Plepler and president Michael Lombardo during the network's TCA summer press tour session.
"They end the show really beautifully," Lombardo said. "It felt right for the show. If felt like there are no stories rushed at the end. And it’s at the right resting place."
They also confirmed the premiere dates for Larry David's movie "Clear History" (Aug. 10) and Stephen Merchant's new comedy "Hello Ladies" (Sept. 29), and gave the status of several current and upcoming projects.
"The Newsroom" is likely to be renewed for Season 3, depending on creator Aaron Sorkin's schedule. They're also interested in producing a second season of Christopher Guest's "Family Tree" with production partners the BBC despite the show's less than stellar ratings.
The premium cable network is also working on a new project with "Eastbound and Down's" Danny McBride surrounding "high school life."
Lastly, there's no end date in sight for their most popular series, "Game of Thrones."
"Our line to George [R.R. Martin is] to keep writing," Plepler said, referring to the author of the book series "GoT" is based on.
