Swimmers get up to 40 minutes to complete the course. Registration costs $60 for adults, $30 for 17 and under. For details, see

The date is chosen for an expected low tide and before the nettles season. Water temperature that time of year averages 72-75 F.

Sponsors warn that the swim is only for experienced open-water swimmers who can swim a mile in a pool within 40 minutes.

All participants get a T-shirt and swim cap. Proceeds go to the Tred Avon Yacht Club Youth Sailing Program.

Street parking will be available near the Robert Morris Inn by the finish area.
