Trebek Magic Johnson: Alex Trebek didn't care for contestant's lame NHL answer

Jeopardy host Alex Trebek’s response to “Magic Johnson” – an answer given by a contestant in last night’s show – was fairly short. But Trebek, who doesn’t engage in much banter during actual gameplay, snuck in a bit of an insult nonetheless.
Poor Joe. Imagine what his guy friends are saying.

Fox Sports on Thursday carried video of the Jeopardy fail, posted above as well. The clue given, from the “Sports Superstars” category, was: 100+ assists in an NHL season has been accomplished only 13 times, 11 times by this player.

So “Joe,” the contestant on the right, offered up: Magic Johnson.

“After doing some research we learned that Magic Johnson never played in the NHL. He was a basketball star,” Fox Sports sarcastically wrote.

Trebek immediately rolled out his “Oh no” interjection, which makes an appearance at times when a contestant’s answer is just utterly erroneous. “We’re talking about hockey, not the NBA,” added Trebek.

The contestant knew it too; after he gave his answer, he had one of those “What did I just say?” looks.

For every Ken Jennings out there, I suppose we have a guy named “Joe.”
