Treatment continues for burned kitten ‘Hope’ (Photos)

On Wednesday, a burn specialist at Michigan State University had a very special patient. A little kitten named Hope.

Earlier this month, a woman in suburban Detroit pulled the tiny kitten from a dumpster. The kitten was emaciated and covered in fleas. She also had been set on fire. The kitten was severely burned on her back, sides and ears.

The woman who found her brought the kitten to Tail Wagger’s 1990, an animal care organization in Livonia, Mich. The kitten was then rushed to Sheehy Animal Hospital for treatment. There, the veterinarian confirmed that she had been tortured and set on fire.

Due to her injuries, there was a risk that she may not make it. But this little kitten, now named Hope, has proved to be a survivor. She made it though one surgery and will need to have several more procedures.

Donations to help with Hope’s ongoing medical expenses are being accepted through the Hope Fund on fundrazr. All funds raised will go directly to help Hope, and other animals of abuse through the Hope Fund.
