The Town of Huntington, NY has partnered with the League of Animal Protection to provide free spaying or neutering of pit bulls/pit bull mixes to its residents throughout October in recognition of Pit Bull Awareness Month.
“We were pleased with the program’s success last year in which 55 people took advantage of the offer, and are happy to partner again with the League which has worked so hard at the Town shelter to increase awareness of how adoptable pit bulls can be,” stated Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone.
Not only does neutering or spaying help keep the dog population in check, it also protects the animals from diseases such as testicular cancer in males and breast and uterine cancer in females.
Residents interested in taking part in the program can visit the Town Animal Shelter at 106 Deposit Rd., East Northport. After showing proof of residency, they will be given vouchers that they can take to any participating veterinarian who will perform the procedure. For more information call the Shelter at 631 745-8722.
