Treasure Valley fitness events for March 2013

We’re nearly done with the first two months of 2013. In fact, although it may not look like it, spring is right around the corner. As we head into March, you might be looking for ways to get active this spring. Fortunately, after a few months of reduced activity due to winter weather, things start to pick up a bit in the third month of the year. Here’s a list to help you plan your fitness ventures for March.

Friday, March 1

Shine 5K Night Run This fun run along the Eagle Greenbelt takes place in the evening and benefits Race for the Nations. The race begins at Merrill Park at 6:30 p.m., and head lamps are provided. For more information, click on this link.

Saturday, March 2

Les Bois 10K Trail Run This trail run starts at Fort Boise Park, then travels north along the cemetery to the trail head and shooting range, up the hill to the top, and then back. For more information, click on this link.

Saturday, March 9

Speed to Feed Idaho 10K/5K Runners are asked to bring at least one non-perishable food item in this benefit for the Idaho Food Bank, or a monetary donation. The race starts and finishes at the Boise State Student Union Building, and winds through the Boise River Greenbelt. Choose from 10K or 5K distances. For more information, click on this link.

Saturday, March 16

Meridian Gold Rush Half Marathon/10K/5K This first annual event starts are Reid Merrill Park and follows the Eagle Greenbelt. All courses are relatively flat. Proceeds benefit Team With A Vision, for the Massachusetts Association for the Blind. For more information, click on this link.

Basic 5 St. Patrick’s Day Fun Run You’re encouraged to wear green for this race starting at the Julia Davis Park band shell. Choose from a 5K run/walk, 5 mile run, or the 1 mile kilted run. There’s a 1 mile run/walk for kids, too. Proceeds benefit the YMCA Team Idaho Track and Cross Country Club. For more information, click on this link.

Shamrock Shuffle Here’s a St. Patrick’s Day run like no other. Taking place at St. Chapelle Winery, this event features a bagpiper and green beer. Leprechauns and other green costumes are encouraged. You can choose from a 5K or 10K course. For more information, click on this link.

Saturday, March 23

Beat the Doc 5K Fun Run and Canine Canter This unique event takes a stand against canine obesity. Now in its 4th year, this 5K race features a flat course for you and your canine companion, who will receive a bandanna with registration. Be sure to hang around for the after-race party. Proceeds go to the Helping Hand charity fund, which provides assistance to pet owners struggling with their veterinary bills. For more information, click on this link.

Saturday, March 30

Ash Dash Memorial Run This first annual 10K event honors fallen wildland and city firefighters. A 1-mile course starts at the Library. Both courses finish at the Idaho Fallen Firefighter Memorial. There’s a superhero theme, and costumes and teams are encouraged. For more information, click on this link.
