Travis Pastrana may have had his NASCAR debut delayed until 2012 due to an injury but will be racing before the end of this year.
Pastrana, who was scheduled to make his NASCAR Nationwide debut this past summer before suffering an injury at the X-Games, will compete in the Race of Champions event in Germany in December.
The X-Games gold medalist, who also holds four American Rally titles, will be competing for the first time since breaking his ankle in July. Pastrana is still unable to walk without crutches but is still looking forward to the event.
“I'm honored to be invited to compete against the best of the best and represent the USA again this year,” said Pastrana. “There isn't an event anywhere else like the Race of Champions. The competitive nature of the drivers combined with our limited experience in the cars makes for a lot of fun and chaos.
“I've been injured most of this year and can't wait to get back in a car to prepare for this event!”
This won’t be the first time Pastrana has gone to the ROC nor will it be the first time with injuries. In 2005 he made the semi-finals, despite breaking a leg in a freestyle motocross exhibition jump at the same event. In 2006 led Team USA to the ROC Nations Cup final.
Pasrana will compete against the likes of F1 stars Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button. The ROC will take place at Dusseldorf's ESPRIT Arena on December 3-4.
