Travis Benjamin was awarded as the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Buffalo Bills last Thursday night. Benjamin ran for 179 yards on punt returns, which is a Cleveland Browns single game record. 79 of those yards came on a second quarter punt return for a touchdown, which gave Cleveland their first lead of the night. Benjamin’s returns also help Cleveland’s offense by giving them great field position.
Benjamin is taking over at a position that was once held by another Brown’s great, Josh Cribbs. Benjamin has shown that he is ready to step up and make plays where he is needed, even on special teams. Benjamin is slated as the 4th string wide receiver behind Josh Gordon, Davone Bess, and Greg Little. Benjamin still has made contributions at wide out with 5 catches for 105 yards this season. As a punt returner this season, he ranks second in the NFL with 256 return yards and averages 15.1 yards a return.
