The world really is going to the dogs, the cats too. Gone are the days when travelling with your four legged companion meant spending your nights apart, you in a comfortable five star hotel, you companion in a boarding kennel where, in most cases, the accommodations were far from five star. Today there are major hotel and motel chains like Best Western, Motel 6, Holiday Inn, Studio 6, Marriott, and Town Plaza are rolling out the red carpet for your four legged traveling companion. Motel 6 alone has over 1,000 facilities that accept your pet with open arms. Pets stay free at Motel 6, now that's an offer that you can't refuse. Motel 6's sister facility, Studio 6 Extended Stay charges a mere $10 per day per pet for a maximum fee of $50 per pet per stay. That's less than what most good boarding kennels charge and the motel staff will treat them like "people" just as you do. If you are going to attend the winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC, there are over 1,400 hotels and motels that will welcome your furry companion.

Today you can take to the skies with your companion animal traveling in the cabin right beside you, gone are the days when they would be treated as fourth class passengers and forced to travel as baggage. Today they can fly the friendly skies in class with American Airlines, United Airlines, Airtran, JetBlue, and Continental Airlines. Those five airlines were voted to be the most pet friendly in 2009. Fact is most of these airlines refuse to carry pets in their cargo compartment.

Today campgrounds all over the world are now welcoming well behaved companion animals. Pet friendly parks and beaches are springing up all over the world so there's absolutely no reason to leave your best friend at home to be cared for by friends or relatives and there's no reason to subject them to the care of strangers. Take them with you as you travel the world.

I can't imagine traveling with my cats. They hate the car! Thanks for the tips for those with more sane companions.

Jerry, does this mean I can carry my diabetic cat to Sicily with me? It would probably cost the same for his seat as it would to get a pet sitter who knows how to administer insulin.
