Sometimes, buzzing about the world in strange cities, you want to treat yourself and your skin with products that seem familiar, comforting, You have a craving, really, for treatments made by a person, not a corporation. If you're unfamiliar with Etsy, it's a web sales site dedicated to hand-made and vintage items. Some of the artists are really exceptional and even celebrities have discovered their creations.
That's why I was happy to be hosted to experience Bumble & Co.! The young lady who makes artisan goats milk soaps (I gotta try them someday!), lavender bath salts and other naturally derived beauty products lives in Northern Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. If you've never been there, it's gorgeous and I intend to retire there one day. The area was known as "the bread basket of The South". Lavender does grow very well there: I had a friend who suggested that we "just run away from everything and start a lavender farm in Virginia." I didn't do it, but I guess there are people who do!
In 2009, Bumble products were included in the Emmy Swag Bags. The following year, she was invited to attend the Academy Award Gift Suite in Hollywood, the American Music Awards and Cannes Film Festival and featured in American Salon, The Piedmont Virginian, Bedrooms & Bathrooms and Flavor magazines.
The packaging is of the minimal/recycled/green type, natural.
In this Polar Vortex weather when rooms have been sealed off for months, Lavender Linen Water and Room Spray is a godsend. It's got a distinct, powerful lavender scent, freshening things and according to ancient herbal traditions, disinfecting them. Lavender comes from the Latin word for "to wash". The bottle is 2 oz., able to fit in any 3-1-1 bag for freshness on the road.
The Lavender Eye Pillow has a nice weightiness, to calm restless eyes. You can microwave it for a few seconds or put it in the freezer. Don't over-microwave it! I once had a teddy bear with lavender stuffing that you could microwave, but I did it too much and then it permanently smelled like burnt popcorn. The eye pillow has a very pleasant scent. My husband said it was fragrant and the nice fragrance would potentially keep him alert -- not asleep. But lavender is generally said to be soothing. You should keep the Eye Pillow sealed in a plastic bag between uses to preserve the aroma.
Hydrating Herbal Face and Neck Cream is -- if you are a baker, you'll know this texture -- a creamed egg yolk texture and color. It has argan oil, rose hip oil, evening primrose oil, carrot seed oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, helichrysum essential oil, shea butter, rose otto, calendula extract, kokum butter, hemp seed oil, pomegranate oil and is made to order. It leaves your skin very, very moist, but not greasy. It feels replenishing, not oily. It has a rich, mixed floral scent.
Bumble & Co. also makes products geared to men and also, pets!
