Traveler tips: Destination weddings (Video)

Ahhh... destination weddings are idyllically romantic. Your dream destination in which you seal the vows of your union. Sounds awesome, and with a little forethought, you can have all your dreams come true.

Tips for destination weddings:

Choose your destination carefully. Choose according to your tastes. If you want a beach wedding with lots of family and friends but all can't afford the airfare to the French Riviera look to beach destinations more locally.

Make plans well in advance. This is for not only for your benefit, but to allow your guests a chance to plan to attend. Also, it ensures you get the place you want to be. If you wait too close to the date, you just might find out that the area is all booked up and there is no where for you to stay.

Combo wedding - getaway: Couples can include family after the wedding with a few get togethers after the wedding so it becomes a family reunion/getaway.

Love boat: Cruising is the hot new way to visit various destinations, and have family come along for the celebration. CruiseCompete can help you select the right cruise line to meet your needs.

Check out the weather: Make sure you know what the weather is like at the time of the year you are planning to tie the knot. Planning a wedding during hurricane season in the Caribbean can turn into a disaster.

Check out the local laws and customs: You don't want to be breaking any laws, be it spitting gum on the sidewalk overseas and getting tossed in jail for it. Know before you go, and make sure to inform all your guests.

Passport: Make sure it is current!

Consultants and Vendors: Make sure they are reputable, and before giving out any monies; have a written agreement of the services they are to provide. Research them online!

Guests: The average cost to a guest to come to your wedding will be about $1000 per person. Their presence at your wedding is your gift. Don't be making gift registries on top of that and expecting additional gifts. Provide your guests with detailed instructions of where they can stay, of when and how to get to certain events, and transportation.

Relax: As with all weddings, there are bound to be a few snafus along the way. Whether it be last minute menu changes to a tear in your outfit, it will only ruin your day if you let it.
