Feel like you don't have enough stress in your life? Try taking your toddler on an airplane. But there are ways to minimize the chaos (notice I said "minimize" not "eliminate"). Here are some helpful tips:
-Expect the Worst, Hope for the Best: If you are traveling by plane, make sure you take into account potential delays. Resign yourself to be in it for the long haul. If you expect the worst, it might not be so bad.
-Pack Well: Pack a special "goody bag" for your kid(s) filled with some of their favorite things. A special art project, a new book, stickers, and special treats (fruit snacks are a go-to of mine.) Your local craft store should have inexpensive, seasonal activities that will entertain the kids for a bit.
-Be Prepared: Make sure you pack extras...pants if they have an accident (don't forget an extra pair of socks...pee travels)...formula (if needed)...sweaters to ward off the coolness of the cabin...snacks (can help with crankiness and boredom).
-Try New Things: Make this time an educational one. Look at a map in the on-board magazine and tell tales about the exotic locales you find. It is a great time to teach kids about the different cultures around the globe.
-What to Do When All Else Fails: At the end of your rope? Gotten to the last straw? Remind yourself that this too shall pass. It can't go on forever and surely there are worse things than being stuck in a closed cabin with a screaming toddler while dozens of people stare...
