If you aren’t lucky enough to have traveled to Spain but would still like to enjoy some of their popular wines, Rueda Wines is the best place to start.
Long considered Spain’s favorite white wine, Rueda Wines have grown in popularity here in the United States. To celebrate, we recommend trying a 2012 bottle of Martinsancho Verdejo.
Verdejo, the uniquely indigenous grape variety to Rueda, has exceptional balance between minerality and acidity which refreshes one’s palate. The crisp Verdejo wines of Rueda carry a hint of herbs with tropical notes and stone fruit and are Spain’s answer to the Sauvignon Blanc. We prefer pairing our wine up with a dish of fresh grilled seafood.
Another interesting note is that approximately 95 percent of wine production in Rueda is Verdejo. The 2011 Hermano Lurton Verdejo was just as good with its peach and apricot aromas and nice crisp finish.
