Aside from the beautiful weather, March brings fun and colorful festivals that make India a travel destination. March is the perfect month to travel to India since the weather is neither hot nor cold, and the spring weather brings reasons to be outdoors and celebrate. The number one reason to travel to India in March is Holi. This well known holiday is celebrated after the full moon in March and will fall on March 27th this year. The festival commemorates the victory of good over evil. The commemoration is a boisterous and carefree celebration that ends in throwing colored powder on others. The festival starts the night before when people make big bonfires out on the streets to burn evil spirits. The next day brings people of all background and ages to the street and throwing colored powder on one another. Children will fill water guns with colored water and will spare no one. Wearing white is a must, just make sure to cover your arms and neck with oil so that the color does not stain the skin. Aside from all the color throwing, pranks, dancing, and revelry, there is a lot of drinking and eating. Neighbors and friends will give each other sweets and delicacies. Travelers should be cautious in celebrating Holi in the street, make sure to keep valuables back at the hotel. Females should be extra careful since the crowds and drinking can be dangerous mix. If you are traveling to India during March, make sure you are in the North during Holi since it is celebrated in a more festive and colorful manner.
