Tough summer is coming to an end, temperatures are still high here in Central Florida. So many who are visiting from cooler climates may not be aware that we are still experience temperatures in the high 90s. This makes it that much more important to understand how to protect yourself in high temperatures and know some tricks to staying cool during your Walt Disney World vacation.
Here are some tips to help you and your family keep cool on those hot days at Disney.
The number one way to cool off while at Disney is enjoy a water-themed attraction. Take a ride on Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park or on Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom. Epcot even has a water play area for kids to cool of at.
Dress in light weight, light colored clothing. This will allow airflow when it gets hot and the material will dry quickly when you ride a water attraction in attempt to cool off. Just a tip: my son’s wear swimsuits with lightweight T-shirts when we visit the theme parks.
Avoid wearing gym shoes to the theme parks. Find a pair of sandals that are not only comfortable for long distance walking, but will also allow your feet to remain cool during the hot hours of the day. Socks and gym shoes can be hot and uncomfortable when wet.
Duck into an air-conditioned building for a few moments. All of the park stores and indoor restaurants are cool throughout the day. Need more than a few minutes. Enjoy an entire meal while sitting in the air conditioning to cool off.
Buy a fan-water misting souvenir. You can buy the Disney version, but super centers and convenience stores sell them for a fraction of the cost.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. This will not only keep cool water in your system, but also keep you from dehydrating.
Spend the day at the water parks. Skip the larger theme parks and enjoy the attractions found at both water parks - Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. There is enough there to keep the entire family entertained for an entire day while keeping cool in the hot Florida sun. If a water park is not your thing, spend the day at Disney Quest, where you will be treated in air conditioning all day and be able to enjoy five floors of interactive video game excitement.
