Travel is an essential of life, giving people the opportunity to explore other cultures, food, and communities, not to mention a chance to just to have fun. Chicago is a bustling city full of something for everyone. It was recently listed as one of the Top 25 Cities to visit in your lifetime and with a little planning can be a vacation full of wonderful memories. Don't forget to snap photos and write down favorites along the way!
If you have flexible dates to travel, sign up for sites like Groupon or ZOZI for deals on hotels and city tours. Flight deals can be found on search sites like Hipmunk to compare prices and get the best deal possible with the least amount of connections.
Travel tip: Check with your hotel to see if they have a free airport shuttle. If not, their website should have directions from the airport. One of the pluses of Chicago is that when it comes to public transportation, they have it covered, which means you can save funds for not having to rent a car.
Where to stay:
Hotel Lincoln is located in the north part of Chicago in Lincoln Park/Old Town. The property has eccentric decor, friendly staff, and good-size rooms. Their LATHER bath products captures a holistic vision with unique blends like lavender and lime. When choosing a hotel think about both budget and location.
Fortunately, Hotel Lincoln is along two major bus lines which gives easy access to Wrigleyville (for a Chicago Cubs game or Wrigley Field tour) and also to main attractions such as the Art Institute, Hancock Building, and Navy Pier.
How to get around:
The bus and train system are well set up to help with easy navigation around the city. The train leads directly into the city from both airports. With the technology of smartphones, you can pull up the bus systems pretty easily to map out where you need to go. Depending on how much you plan to use the bus, buying a multi-day pass might be more cost effective. A single ride is $2.25.
Keep in mind the benefits of Uber as well. A lot of the main attractions are near each other driving wise, but can seem a little long for walking, especially if you’ve been on your feet the whole day. New Uber users receive a $20 credit.
Travel tip: Pre-program the Uber app into your phone, so you can have it handy at your fingertips when you need to call a car.
