Travel hacks from BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed has released a fantastic video full of invaluable travel hacks. If you are frequent business traveler, or an “only on the holidays” one, the tips are simple to implement and will save you loads of time (and possibly money) as you wander.

I will not reveal all of their secrets here -- you’ll have to watch the video -- but here is a list of my favorites.

  1. Roll your clothes in a suitcase to get more inside of it. Not only is it a great idea, but it actually works. I did this with clothes I shipped to my destination over the holidays, and I was able to fit far more in the box, and they were not a wrinkled mess when I opened them.
  2. Use tennis shoes to protect wine bottles. If you and the girls have headed out for a wine tasting, and you’ve decided to bring home a souvenir, it can get a bit tricky. The bottle likely exceeds the liquid limit for a carry-on, so you have to check it, but there's a perfectly reasonable concern that it will break before reaching home. The video shows you how to fit your shoes around a bottle to give it extra protection inside your suitcase.
  3. Use plastic wrap to avoid leaks. Unscrew the bottle of shampoo and place a layer of plastic wrap over the opening. Then reseal the cap. It’s an incredibly simple idea, but until I saw this video, I never thought about doing it. I'm definitely going to give it a try next time I fly.
