We all have our preferences when we travel. Some like sand and surf. Others like the mountains. In general, we like clean rooms (some are more fastidious than others), and as much safety as we can reasonably expect. And then there are the people who have… let’s say, very specific expectations about what their vacations should include, or what their travel agents should have warned them about before heading off on holiday.
Caroline Modarressy Tehrani for HuffPost Live runs down her favorite travel complaints, as compiled by Thomas Cook Vacations. The complaints were received as part of the Thomas Cook/ABTA Survey), and include everything from complaints about the color of the sand (not as white as the color of the beach in the brochure) to being annoyed by the presence of foreigners when traveling in another country.
These were among my personal favorites:
"No one told us there would be fish in the water. The children were scared."
"It took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England. It took the Americans only three hours to get home. This seems unfair."
"It's lazy of the local shopkeepers in Puerto Vallarta to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during 'siesta' time -- this should be banned."
So, the next time you feel badly about complaining about something that has gone awry during a vacation, take heart that you are not one of these people: 19 Idiotic (But Real) Travel Complaints. If you are one of those people, perhaps you should stick closer to home—much, much closer.
