Don’t get stranded, France is holding a massive nationwide strike that will paralyze the nation. Everything from airports, public transport to telecommunications will be disrupted.
Air France reported that air traffic controllers will take part in the general strike and as a result, French Civil Aviation Authorities have limited the number of flights for all airlines.
“Therefore, on September 7, we plan to reroute all our customers and to operate:
- 100 % of our long-haul flights,
- 90% of our short and medium-haul flights at Paris-Charles de Gaulle,
- 50% of our short and medium-haul flights at Paris-Orly”.
The airline pledged to keep passengers informed and it's prepared to offer alternate solutions, either on a flight with Air France, with KLM through Amsterdam, or with one of the SkyTeam alliance partners.
Please check the status of your flight before you travel to the airport with Air France or your airline or the airport at your destination.
In addition, several unions, including state railways, are also having a 24-hour shutdown from 8 p.m. local time on September 6 over the pension reform plans.
Avoid getting stranded in the airport or another country. Consider canceling or adjusting your travel plans. Without transportation or communications, you will not be able to get around and risk becoming a victim of scalpers charging ridiculous amounts for even a taxi ride.
Learn about travel routes. Make reservations ahead of time in a hotel within walking distance of the airport, plan for the extra expense. Bring enough cash to last you the first couple of days. This information should be easy to find on Google maps, type in the search maps box Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris, France, or the airport at your destination.
