Transition Info, Advocacy and Special Education presented by APEC

In the coming months Alabama Parent Education Center will hosts events to explain Transition information to educators, professionals, and families.

Of current interests are ILP's or "Individual Learning Plans." These plans help to develop a roadmap for after high school. The Office of Disability on Employment Policy has a checklist and toolkit to help families and providers as they assist the high school student.

These plans will personalize learning and engage students in activities which the student has identified as interesting. These plans are an effort for students to take charge of their own future while providing a safety net to the student. For students with disabilities, the ILP facilitates the desperately needed transition plan. The ILP can start as early as middle school and this is the ideal time to start transition planning and goal setting.
