Activision has unveiled a new multiplayer gameplay trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron.
This video showcases gameplay from three multiplayer game modes: Team Deathmatch, Conquest, and Countdown to Extinction. (You can also watch an additional video on multiplayer Transformers: War for Cybertron, and more videos and character reveals are located at the end of the article.)
The more that is revealed of this game the more intriguing it becomes. Multiplayer looks like it will borrow heavily from popular team-based shooters such as Valve's Team Fortress 2, and this is a good thing—if it's done well. (We probably don't need 'hats' on our transformers, however.)
Assuming the multiplayer is good enough to build a strong multiplayer gaming community, and that the single-player campaign is (at least) decent, Transformers: War for Cybertron could be a hit. However, heavily-inspired TF2-style multiplayer game mechanics may not translate well to a robust or interesting single-player game experience, so we can't say much for now other than "it looks promising."
Transformers: War for Cybertron is set to release on June 22nd, 2010, for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DSi. According to Activision's fact sheet for the game, the PC version will ship with a suggested retail price of $29.99 (vs. $59.99 on Xbox/PS3).
