Transformers Special Edition Camaro gets its own sequel, arrives in September

The Autobot Bumblebee is back in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and the Transformers Special Edition Camaro is returning to Chevrolet dealerships, Chevrolet announced yesterday. The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro starred as a good transforming robot, the yellow-and-black Bumblebee, in the 2007 film Transformers and in 2009's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The movies were mega hits on theater screens and the 2010 Transformer Camaro was a big sales win for Chevrolet, so naturally it's time for a sequel.

Of course, a sequel repeats the winning formula of the original, so too the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition. Like the movie's Autobot character the real car is based on, the Special Edition is painted in bright Rally Yellow, and like the 2010 Transformer Camaro, the 2012 will have black stripes over the hood, roof, decklid and high-wing rear spoiler used on the Bumblebee Camaro only.

The paint is only part of the 2012 Camaro Transformers Special Edition, a $3,000 package available on the 2LT Camaro and 2SS Camaro Coupes with the RS appearance package. Also included are black-painted alloy wheels mounted with high-performance summer tires. If the stripes aren't enough, Autobot Shield logos will be on the wheel center caps and on the front quarter panels.

What does a 101-year old Camaro owner own?

There's black leather inside, offset by yellow stitching on the dash, center console, armrests and seats. More Autobot Shield logos are embroidered on the front headrests and center console lid.

Not enough? Ask your dealer for the Camaro Transformer Special Edition 21-inch wheels and black ground effects package.

"The Transformers franchise has helped introduce Camaro--and Chevrolet--to a whole new generation of fans," according to Rich Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "Its role in the films helped make the Camaro the best-selling sports car in America, and one of the best-know cars of any kind around the world."

Bumblebee fans in the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Europe, South America and the Middle East will be able to get a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition. Orders may be placed in July in the U.S. and Canada, but deliveries to Chevy dealers won't begin until September.

Can't wait? Toys R Us might have the thing to tide you over.
