Transformers Chicago...Popeye Rebirth...Hollywood buzz

"Transformers 2"

Transformers coming to Midwest

Good news all you Midwestern movie fans, in addition to shooting in Los Angeles, Africa, Moscow and China, director Michael Bay says his cast and crew are heading to Chicago to film scenes for “Transformers 3.”  Bay, who helmed the first two movies, says shooting is expected to begin on the third installment in April.  Frances McDormand (Burn After Reading), John Malkovich (Burn After Reading) and Ken Jeong (The Hangover) have all agreed to join Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox on the latest action-packed Transformer adventure.  So far the Transformers franchise has grossed more then $1.5 billion worldwide.  “Transformers 3” is slated to hit theatres July 1st, 2011.

Rebirth of Popeye

Dust off the pipe and stock up on the spinach; it looks like the famed sailor man Popeye could soon see a rebirth.  Sony Pictures has announced it’s developing a new 3D animated Popeye movie.  While the specific storyline is being kept quiet, fans can expect to see Olive Oyl, Swee’Pea and Bluto in the film.  The movie will be produced by the same team currently working on “The Smurfs” movie, which is expected to hit theatres August 3rd, 2011.  Popeye was first introduced in a 1929 comic strip and was last seen in 1980 after being portrayed by comedian Robin Williams.

“Overboard” remake

It’s the set where Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first met and now Jennifer Lopez has signed on to play Hawn’s character in Columbia Pictures remake of the romantic comedy “Overboard.”  The original film shot in 1987 by famed director Garry Marshall (Valentine’s Day), follows a rich socialite who falls off her yacht, gets amnesia and is adopted into a family living far below her class.  No word yet what changes have been made to update the remake.  Will Smith is producing the new “Overboard” movie which is expected to hit theatres in 2011.
