Transformers 3 Set For 2011?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hits theaters June 24, 2009, but it looks like a third film may already be in the works three months before the first sequel is even released. Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks Pictures have set a July 1, 2011 release date for Transformers 3. The studios told Variety that this announcement isn't an official greenlight for the project, but rather wanted to plan a stake in the date.

The film would have little to no competition if that release date sticks. Thor, another film from Paramount Pictures, is set for May 20, 2011 as it was moved up from its original June 17, 2011 release date. This means its set to hit theaters two weeks after Spider-Man 4, which is locked in for May 6, 2011.

An interesting update was made to this. Michael Bay apparently announced on his forums that he agreed to do Transformers 3 for the July 4th weekend, but for 2012 as he says he needs a break from giant robots. Hm. Tough break.
