In pre-production mode, yet set for an April 25, 2014 theatrical release, “Transcendence” will star Johnny Depp and be the debut film for director Wall Pfister.
The new Warner Bros. Pictures release will reveal the story of a man (Depp) whose brain is upload into a supercomputer. The film will address ideas such as singularity, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.
In “Transcendence,” there are a group of anti-technology terrorists who murder Depp’s character. His death inspires his scientist wife to upload his mind into the prototype supercomputer.
The experiment works and all is saved, although the members of the anti-technology organization find out that his wife has uploaded his thoughts and memories into the computer. They attempt to destroy the supercomputer.
There are rumors that the film included a portion of the plot where Depp will backup his own “brain” from the computer and upload it to every computer in the world. He reportedly begins accessing online indexes. This does not compute nor does it happen. This was confirmed by Andrew A. Kosove, the producer, who informed Screen Rant of the misinformation.
Casting for Depp’s character and his wife’s character is underway. Other than that, the casting is incomplete at this time.
Watch for “Transcendence” on April 25, 2014.
