On Sunday February 24, 2013 runners and walkers will meet at Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits located at 208 Main Street in Asbury Park. They will check in for the Annual Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits Train Run. This is the third year of the winter event. In past runs participants boarded the train in Asbury Park and went south and ran back to Johnny Mac’s. This year, as a result of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, the runners will board the 9:40 a.m. train and head north and run back in the reverse direction.
After checking in, they will walk across the street to the Asbury Park train station and catch the 9:40 a.m. train to be dropped off at either the Allenhurst or Elberon Train Stations.
The first stop will let the first group of runners and walkers off in Allenhurst where they will have a choice of routes. The longer route will head east to Ocean Avenue and then the Asbury Park boardwalk and then back to Johnny Mac’s a distance of 2.5 miles. The shorter route h is ideal for those who want to walk heads directly back along Main Street directly back to Johnny Mac’s which a distance of 1.5 miles.
The second stop will be at the Elberon Train Station where the runners will get off the train and to run a 4.5 mile route toward Ocean Avenue and the Asbury Park Boardwalk and then back to Johnny Mac’s..
Upon their return at Johnny Mac’s the participants will be treated to a Pizza or Fresh Omelets and Beer (or soda) party. There will be lots of random awards and giveaways. All pre-registered participants will get a quality long sleeve shirt.
The event is a benefit for the Jersey Shore Running Club’s Asbury Park Youth Program and the Mount Carmel School in Asbury Park.
According to organizer Vicki Hoagland of Allenhurst, NJ, “this will be a fun event and will help support a worthwhile cause.”
