Why isn't this being released pre-Oscar cut-off? The Hughes Brothers are enormously talented, always providing terrific visuals. They've had the potential to pull off a classic since the beginning, and from the looks of this trailer, they're getting closer. The January release date is puzzling-- it makes me think either (a) it's not as good as it looks, or (b) it's so out there that it doesn't have much commercial potential. Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, and Michael Gambon all together makes this the most talented cast they've worked with to date and the setting and story look absolutely intriguing. With the buzz surrounding the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road being as middling as this is, this could step in and kick 2010 off with a bang. What do you think-- intrigued by the trailer, or skeptical because of the release date?
