Trail travel: Biking around Indianapolis

When people hear 'bike travel' most think that is only referring to biking across country or riding from one city to another. There is so much more to bike travel than a week of nothing but riding!

There are several cities in the country known for being bike friendly. Indianapolis is starting to be recognized as one of those cities. The trail system is amazing. It allows riders to go so many places. The Monon, The Cultural Trail, The Towpath, bike lanes - travel is pretty easy around the city once you learn where to pick up the different trails.

There's several ways to learn the trails so you can bike travel around this city. Here are a couple suggestions to get you started. The new bike maps can be picked up at any of the local bike shops.

Stop at The Bike Hub downtown and they will be happy to give you a map and go over it with you. They even offer bike rentals so you can go exploring on two wheels. Go online and read about the newly finished Cultural Trail - it's pretty amazing!

There are different points of interest along the 9 mile path that circles the city.
Indianapolis is working very hard and has made great strides in making it easier and easier to 'bike travel' in the city. They recognize the importance of getting from point-to-point, not just riding around.

Bike travel doesn't have to be a week of non-stop biking. It can be, but it can also be biking to work or to the store or to a festival or to a museum.
