If you’re looking for new riding trails and want to make friends with other horse enthusiasts, take a look at TROT – Trail Riders of Today.
Our horses benefit enormously from going out on the trails and experiencing new and natural surroundings. It keeps them fresh for their regular work, especially if this involves the stress of multiple show appearances.
It’s safer to ride out in company than alone. I relax much more on my somewhat spooky gelding when I’m in a group than when we’re by ourselves on the trail, and that helps him chill out, too. An organized trail ride is the optimum situation and provides a strong support group (just in case!).
The Maryland based organization is dedicated to creating and preserving “equestrian and multi-use natural surface trails.” Many trail rides are held every year and, as a TROT member, you receive a newsletter informing you about issues affecting Maryland trail riders. It is also an active way to help keep open the trails we use for horse riding.
As a member you’ll also get discounts at certain tack shops.
