Trail race success prompts road races at Smith Rock

Race organizers had so much luck with the Smith Rock Ascent trail race last year they decided to add road races to the mix.

Go Beyond Racing LLC will host a new road half marathon, 10K and 5K on June 15, the day after the Smith Rock Ascent, a trail race that boasts a 15K a kids 4-mile and the newly added 50K. The Smith Rock Ascent kicks off the second year of the Northwest Mountain Trail Series.

“Smith Rock State Park is such an amazing venue,” Todd Janssen, co-owner of Go Beyond Racing, said in a press release. “People really enjoyed the trail race we produced last year, so we decided to expand the event to include a road course so more people could compete there.”

And if you're feeling extra intrepid, runners who conquer the 50K on Saturday, June 14 and the half marathon the following Sunday, will get special shirts as part of the Fleet Feet "Doubler." Fleet Feet is a race sponsor, providing shoes, shirts and hosting the road race packet pickup, according to the release.

Smith Rock State Park is in Terrebonne, Ore. just north of Bend and has deep river canyons, thousands of climbs and endless mountain biking and hiking trails.
