Trail of 100 Giants
The Trail of 100 Giants offers a leisurely loop through a grove of Giant Sequoias. With easy access off the Western Divide Highway, this is practically a required stop on a trip to Giant Sequoia National Monument. Located within the Long Meadow Grove, this half-mile paved trail gives visitors an opportunity to revel beneath these enormous beauties.
How big are the Giant Sequoias? In Latin they are called, Sequoiadendron giganteum, but there is only one word in the English language that captures the grandeur of these arbors -- ginormous. These trees are huge! Regular trees look like saplings standing next to them. Volume-wise, these are the largest species of trees in the world. Many of the Sequoias are a thousand years old and more than twenty feet across.

The elegant red bark gives off a warm glow
Those who like what they see on the Trail of 100 Giants should take a trip up to Sequoia National Park. The Giant Forest Museum is a great place to find out more about Giant Sequoias. Another grove worth visiting is Calaveras Big Tree State Park, where Giant Sequoias were first discovered by white settlers.

To get to the trailhead: parking for the Trail of 100 Giants is located on the east side of the Western Divide Highway north of Parker Pass Road. The trail starts opposite the parking lot. Redwood Meadow Campground also offers access to the grove.

Wow. Stunning pictures. I also love the way you do layouts for your articles. I've never seen Sequoia trees before in real life and can't begin to imagine the size and scale.
This is truly awesome, Seth. The hike, of course, but I'm actually referring to the passion+knowledge+skill combo your Examiner column demonstrates. The maps, photography, commentary, links, etc. all make for a truly stunning presentation.
