Friday officers intervined at Painted Pastures Animal Sanctuary in Tinley Park. Officials found over 100 animals, among them was a dead horse as well as a dead cat. Many if not all the animals were sick and in very poor condition. The owner claims that she was overwelmed.
This to me is not a good reason to neglect over 100 sick, hurt, and tramatized animals. She was responsible for these animals, she made a commitment when she opend the shelter.
What breaks my heart is that I have met the owner and have helped out at adoption events. Many of the animals were dirty and sick but the owner claimed she had just picked them up and wanted to find homes for them right away. It saddens me that she so easily convinced us. Of course, you think hey this is a shelter, she wants to help these animals and would never hurt them.
The owner has been charged with 8 counts of neglecting owner duties and 2 counts of cruel treatment. Her next court date is March 11th. We can only hope that justice is served and that the poor animals recover physically and emotionally.
People interested in adopting an animal from the sanctuary can call 708-633-8649.
