The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane watch from Louisiana to Florida as Tropical Storm Karen heads into the Gulf of Mexico.
On Thursday morning, Oct. 3, 2013, the Weather Channel reported that the hurricane watches are in effect from Grand Isle, La., to Indian Pass, Fla.
This warning does not include metropolitan New Orleans at this time.
However, there are still tropical storm watches in the following areas: metropolitan New Orleans, Lake Ponchartrain and Lake Maurepas, as well as the Gulf Coast from west of Grand Isle to Morgan City, La.
Forecasters are still uncertain as how strong the storm will be, but the National Weather Center notes that "stong wind shear" is expected across the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico and this shear may weaken Tropical Storm Karen as the storm approaches the U.S.
