The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) will begin its annual tracking of Santa's route on Christmas Eve. Excited children (and adults alike) can follow Santa's sleigh around the world, viewing new images of Santa each hour.
In 1955, a misprint listed the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD)'s phone number as a Santa hotline. The staff played along and a tradition was born. When NORAD took over for CONAD in 1958, it continued the tradition.
NORAD offers glimpses of Santa, reindeer and even fighter jets escorting Saint Nick. The NORAD website also has a virtual North Pole, complete with games, music and information about Christmas traditions.
Luckily for Santa, Australia's Airservices revealed they have approved his flight plan across the continent.
The NORAD efforts are funded by donations and is staffed by volunteers.
