Track profile: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, Quebec

Named for the legendary Canadian driver who lost his life in 1982, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has the current distinction of being the only North American host for Formula One. In addition, the Canadian road course is also home to the NASCAR Nationwide and Canadian Tire Series and the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

The track hosted its first Formula One race in October 1978, and went on to host the series for 30 years until it was dropped from the schedule in 2009. Officials and organizers worked to bring the race back, and it returned in 2010, with a guaranteed contract until 2014. NASCAR first came to the track in 2007.

The F1 Grand Prix du Canada 2011 takes place Friday through Sunday, June 10th through 12th; tickets can be purchased through www.formula1.com. NASCAR’s Nationwide Series returns to the track Friday and Saturday, August 19th and 20th; tickets are currently available through the NAPA 200 website.
