A rep for Adkins stated "Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism" adding "As he faces these issues head on, we ask that his family's privacy will be respected."

Adkins was scheduled to perform along with many other country stars during the cruise that began in Miami on Jan. 12, 2014 including Montgomery Gentry, Wynonna, Neal McCoy, Love and Theft, Craig Morgan and Lonestar. Adkins posted “Up here in my suite, overlooking the pools. Behave yourselves.” on Twitter the day the cruise began.

Country Cruising spokesperson Tracy Michaels spoke about the incident according to Yahoo saying "While most pertinent and some reckless information has been thoroughly distributed, it seems the most human story remaining is the love and concern that has been shown by Trace's fellow artists and fans.”

Michaels continued by saying “Our heartfelt concern for Trace's well-being far overshadows any momentary disruption in our musical program” adding "We are currently planning our next country cruise. At the appropriate opportunity, we would welcome Trace back with open arms."
