Toys-R-Us probably won't carry POLE DANCE DOLL: Miley Cyrus TEEN CHOICE AWARD performance debate

Celebrity teen Miley Cyrus even resembles the new Pole Dance doll

Pole dance doll toy inspired by Miley Cyrus hits the Internet: Hoax or sad role model statement?

Entertainment Examiner Michael Essany is one of my favorite celebrity news journalists to read. Not only does he have some of the fastest reporter response times to hot trending leads and great breaking news stories, he writes with such a friendly and astute tone that all his articles -- no matter how weird the trivia -- are a pleasure to read. Today, Essany broke his version of Entertainment news here at the Examiner by talking about a new toy that may or may not be available to young girls and boys as a play item for the Christmas holiday shopping season. It's the new "Pole Dance Doll" some are claiming has been inspired by celebrity Miley Cyrus -- the latest Walt Disney starlet to begin to go awry.

MILEY CYRUS DOES A POLE DANCE AT TEEN CHOICE AWARDS: ACTIONS RAISE CONCERN ABOUT WHAT IS AND WHAT IS NOT APPROPRIATE ROLL MODEL BEHAVIOR OR FOR CHILDRENS TELEVISION VIEWERS

Early this summer, we took a closer look at celebrity teen star Miley Cyrus and reviewed a bit about her celebrity home life. Miley, a huge star in the eyes of most children under the age of 20, is (at the time of this post) sweet sixteen. Since hitting puberty, the starlet, singer, and television show lead actress has shown the world her increasingly adult nature in her dance routines, webcam home videos and live Internet broadcasts, and choice of photography portraits (such as the image shown below which appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine when the star was 15 years old).

TEEN CHOICE AWARDS SCANDAL

At the TEEN CHOICE awards, Miley was very excited to be doing a performance routine that would showcase and glamorize trailer park lifestyles and her Southern heritage. Click the following link to read more -- we're not being critical or making this up in any way.

However, her choice to do a pole dance during the number -- and for her D list dad Billy Ray Cyrus to follow up saying his 16 year old daughter is simply expressing her adulthood and that he supports and encourages her artistic expression -- may have actually knocked her name from the A list to the B list or C list in the minds of most children's parents.

MILEY CYRUS INSPIRED POLE DANCE DOLL RE-IGNITES CONTROVERSY

Now, as a result of the teen tart bringing pole dancing into the field of children's vocabulary and pre-teen imagination, the POLE DANCE DOLL concept has sprung up (popped up, come up, arrived, whatever you want to call it, it's in the pop culture history now -- whether or not anyone ever actually manufactures it).

Essany writes,

According to the New York Daily News, the "Pole Dance Doll" is a doll that - you guessed it - dances around a stripper pole much like an exotic dancer.

The box even advertises the "live action features" of the doll, which include: "Style," "Flash," "Up and Down," "Go Round and Round," and "Music."

Although this product has turned up online, there is no word yet of when or how people can actually buy it. This scenario has led some to believe that it's all a hoax.

Nonetheless, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton weighed in on the offensive doll today.

"If your kids ask for this doll this holiday season," comments Hilton, "we recommend reform school immediately!"

Ever since the infamous Miley Cyrus pole dance at the Teen Choice Awards last month, parents have been incredibly touchy on the subject of pole dancing. And even though Miley Cyrus has nothing to do with the doll (nor has she endorsed it, safe to say) some parents have already been quick to condemn the Hanna Montana star as the culprit behind this doll.

Why is this celebrity teen getting caught in so many scandals?

MORE NEWS ABOUT THE POLE DANCE DOLL AND SEXUAL ETHICS REGARDING MORALITY, THE ADULT ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, AND CHILDREN

Will the toy that glorifies strippers, female objectification, the adult entertainment industry, and just plain seedy ethical values ever make it to the shelves of toy stores like Toys-R-US or Kay-bee toys this Christmas while the image of kiddie role model Miley Cyrus gyrating on a pole is still fresh in the minds of trailer park and future Jerry Springer kids? The NY Daily News article also reported,

Batteries and dollar bills not included...

Whether or not it's a hoax or a sign of the apocalypse, posters on parenting Web site parentdish.com were aghast over the suggestive doll sending a horrible message to young girls.

"Can you say dieing (sic) civilization. NEXT!!," read one post. Said another: "It does look pretty real . but it just seems too over the top to be real! I just can't believe someone would go that far . well, then again, maybe I can."

A writer for Gizmodo.com told parentdish.com that the new doll is likely authentic - and probably came from Asia.

"As far as I can tell, it's a real product," said Gizmodo.com's Jesus Diaz. "It didn't seem Photoshopped to me. It feels more like the typical Chinese-made product you can only find in low cost stores."

Trendy Living Examiner Mark Leevan also weighed in on the issue, reporting, "A toy like the Pole Dancer Doll was [recently pulled from a U.K. store shelves. The Peekaboo Pole Dancing kit had a pole, dance garter and play money for tips. The package had a cartoon like stripper depicted and was in  Toys and Games section of the website."

LA Dancing Examiners Ian and Jana Ono say, "The pole dancing doll is about as bad as the Dallas Cheerleader Barbie and just as pro-ana.  It sort of is an ersatz pole dancing Barbie. What would Ken say?"

Sex Scandal Examiners Jordan and Samantha O&C express concern over the nature of the doll -- and about the questionable acts preformed on the TEEN CHOICE AWARD. Seeming to feel the doll is made to train young girls to become future strippers (or to act in their home environments in a sexualized way from a very young age), they write, "

"The pole dancer starts dancing when music begins," says the box that contains this not-so-sexy pole dance doll.

With Miley Cyrus' recent controversial pole dance at the MTV Teen Choice awards and now this doll, one thing seems clear.

Pole dancing isn't just for grownups anymore.

Are we intentionally raising a generation of future strippers? Or is pole dancing becoming so mainstream, with pole exercise classes cropping up nationwide, that the sex factor is being literally stripped away from one of the great phallic symbols of our time? What do you think?

Toy store representatives have yet to issue a comment about whether or not stores would consider stocking such and adult-theme item. However, if the toy is produced, it is expected that stores like SPENCERS GIFT STORE would in fact elect to carr the novely toy item in their adult toy and gag gift section -- bringing all that teen sex scandal and kiddie porn controversy to a mall near you.

What do YOU think? Is this an appropriate toy for a child? Would you buy it for a young girl to inspire her career as a dancer or for a young boy to have to daydream about his future strip club adventures? We know it's tasteless -- but can't quite find the right words to help explain WHY. Please share your thoughts in the comments section below, including telling the world whether or not you think the POLE DANCE DOLL idea arose because of Miley Cyrus' dance routine this year or if the creation of the toy is simply a leftover idea from so many years of the popularity of Miley Cyrus idol and Walt Disney predecessor pop tart Britney Spears?

Your headline is a lie. You have no proof that the doll was inspired by the so called pole dance of Cyrus. If you have ever seen a pole dance you would laugh at the words "pole dance" being used to describe her performance.

  • Jennifer 2 years ago

That doll is just wrong, hilarious, and disturbing all rolled into one. I laughed out loud when I read this story - but Miley Cyrus. Seriously...If she's going to keep being around kids she needs to tone it down.

  • JOHN 2 years ago

WHATEVER YOUR PERSONAL ADULT LIFE PREFERENCE, DEE -- POLE DANCING IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN DUE TO THE CULTURAL CONNOTATION NO MATTER HOW MILD ON THE SURFACE THE THEME OF THE DANCE APPEARS TO BE.

  • Dee 2 years ago

John: She was NOT pole dancing, period. Open your eyes!

  • Kylie 2 years ago

We are thinking to far into the subject... Either children this age already know what "stripping" is or they don't which they shouldn't. However, we as adults only think it's a bad sign because our minds are crupt and dirty. Children wouldn't even know the difference. Teens on the other hand may but chances are half of them are probably having sex already. This toy is not geared for teens though anyway.

Dee is right that was no pole dance! Just a bunch of perverted minded parents looking for something else to bitch about, and parents like to bitch about what Miley does because she is a so- called "role model", umm, no dickheads thats your job as a parent, if you go looking to the tv, music, ect. for a role model for your child then you have failed as a parent! And from the looks on the streets there are alot of failures out there, little girls dressed like prostitutes walking up and down the streets all hours of the night doing god knows what, and parents refuse to take the blame for why their kid acts this way so they blame their babysitter the TV and people on tv, well folks its like this people on tv never wanted to be your role model they just want to make alot of money and don't give a crap about you or you children, so its time that you do and start being parents instead of whiners and complainers, and quit blaming everyone else when you are the failure or quit having kids!

Just go away miley!! You suck and have no tlanet, you sing through your nose

Bob is a dumb a** and looks like he has anger issues! Anyway miles is a stupid littel rich brat and I can't whate untell she is over with I hope soon

  • Chelsea 2 years ago

I disagree with blaming miley for the creation of this doll. Society is becoming so immoral it was bound to happen with or without miley's performance at the teen's choice awards. I agree with both Dee and Bob. What she did was not a pole dance but the people who decided to make the pole part of the performance is sick and money-hungry. Miley is still young and has lots to learn but it's hard to have morals when hollywood especially is so sex driven. Parents should not look for famous role models anyways they will make mistakes that are likely to be much worse than the average person. Parents are the ones who need to be role models or at least try to be. Also we all have to wake up one day and realize that products like this needs to be stopped, these are innocent children! How could anyone think that this is okay? It's not, people are having sex younger and younger...please at the very least nobody buy this product so that it'll get off the shelves as quick as possible.

I found your link on Michael's facebook page and I have to agree that the concept of little girls wanting or playing with this doll grosses me out! Great job with this article!

There are lots of pole dancing agencies all over the world that need showgirls. So I just want to give all of you a pole dancing tip: Grab the pole. Start at the back of the pole, with your inside foot close to the base. Use your strong hand. Allow your arm to straighten, so your weight is hanging away from the pole.
