Chicago kids ready to start shopping for Halloween costumes can visit in-store Toys R Us Halloween “Boo”tiques and the online digital costume catalog for 2010 to find dress-up clothes and holiday merchandise for this spooky upcoming October holiday. Products TRU is selling this year range from children’s Halloween costumes and accessories to candy and an expanded array of safety items.

Halloween costumes at Toys R Us

Toys R Us children’s costumes have been selected to provide families with dress-up options for all the most popular trends and media products for 2010 - including kids’ Zhu-Zhu Pets costumes, Avatar costumes, and Princess Tiana costumes – as well as perennial dress-up favorites such as Thomas and Friends costumes, Harry Potter costumes, Barbie costumes, and Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go costumes.

Some of the costume themes Toys R Us expects to be most popular this year include:

  • Exclusive Toys R Us Disney Princess costumes whose sale benefits the Children Afflicted by AIDS Foundation. Available only at TRU, these dress-ups allow kids to dress up as popular Disney characters such as Ariel (the Little Mermaid), Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Belle (from Beauty and Beast), Jasmine (from Aladdin), Cinderella, and Snow White.
  • Halloween Heroes, including superheroes like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Superman, and Batman.
  • Wings and Things, or winged costumes for kids including cute butterfly, ladybug, and bee costumes.
  • Muscle Madness, or dress-up items with built-in padded muscles to allow kids to look like a bulky Buzz Lightyear, Iron Man, or Power Ranger. New this year are dress-ups with inflatable bellies to allow boys (or girls) to look like Mario or Luigi from Super Mario Brothers.

Toys R Us digital costume catalog

At the online Toys R Us digital costume catalog, parents and children can shop for costumes by character and theme, by gender, by age (broken down nicely into categories like Birth to 12 months, 12 to 24 months, 2 years, 3 and 4 years, 5 to 7 years, 8 to 11 years, 12 to 14 years, and big kids), by price, and by brand. They can also sort options using customer feedback organized into intuitive categories such as Why I Like It (whether it is cute, durable, unique, etc.) and How I Use It (for example, for a costume party, general dress-up, trick or treating, school, or a theme party).

Using this online tool, families can pre-shop costumes and narrow down their options before ever setting foot in a brick-and-mortar store. If families do choose to purchase a costume online, TRU and BRU are offering free shipping on all purchases over $100. In fact, many of these dress-up items are available online only.

Toys R Us Halloween Bootiques

Dress-up accessories sold at Toys R Us Halloween Bootiques include everything from Star Wars lightsabers to Iron Man helmets, Fancy Nancy gloves, and Disney Princess shoes. Children should be able to find everything they need to put the finishing touches on costumes based on famous media characters.

Parents and kids can also shop at TRU for Halloween décor (including party supplies) Halloween books, and Halloween movies. Trick or treating safety products on display in stores include light-up lanterns, headbands, and candy buckets, as well as glow necklaces and bracelets, and flashlights.

Through September 16, 2010, Chicago families can visit the Toys R Us website and click on the Halloween Catalog Coupons ad under Super Deals to print off coupons for deals such as $5 off any one Halloween costume.
