Toyota to show new Tundra 1794 Edition Texas-themed pickup at DFW Auto Show (Photos)

A new Toyota all-Texas-and-western-themed Tundra pickup truck is coming for 2014 and Toyota will be showing it at the Dallas-Fort Worth Auto Show March 13-17, 2013 according to information we received March 8 from Toyota sources.

Texas pickup truck enthusiasts should plan to attend the Dallas-Fort Worth Auto Show, that starts next week, to see the new Tundra 1794 Edition and how it will be heating up the competition for the pickup truck market in Texas in 2013 and 2014.

Ford will be showing their Atlas Concept pickup, Chevrolet will show their new 2014 Silverado, the GMC new 2014 GMC Sierra will be on display and Ram is showing the latest developments with their award winning Ram 1500 that will offer a segment-first 3.0-liter V-6 diesel later in the year.

As truck enthusiasts size up the truck market offerings, the most important stop for true Texas pickup truck enthusiasts will be the Toyota exhibit where they will be able to see the prototype of the new 2014 Tundra 1794 Edition pickup truck that is targeted especially for the Texas market.

Pickup trucks are a major factor of the automotive market in Texas as where one in five pickup trucks in the U.S. are sold just in Texas. The competition for a major share of the largest truck market in the U.S. is taken very seriously by all of the manufacturers.

With everyone of the major brands showing new and improved trucks this year, Toyota stood out with the unveiling of their redesigned 2014 Tundra full-size pickup truck line and its new 1794 Edition at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show in February.

Putting the Texas market fully in their sights, Toyota is now proudly bringing their 1794 Edition prototype to the DFW Auto Show next week.

Toyota already has the strongest brand manufacturing link to Texas as they are the only full-size pickup truck built in Texas - assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing just south of downtown San Antonio, Texas.

To strengthen that link, Toyota is adding a true all-Texas-and-western ranch branded truck to their line with the 2014 Tundra 1794 Edition.

Some of the competing trucks with Texas links include the F-150 King Ranch from Ford and the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn. Both of these trucks are linked to Texas history or culture by their names and/or their extensively Texas, western or ranch themed high-end interiors.

Now Toyota will be challenging the competition with their new 2014 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition (along with the significantly upgraded 2014 Tundra line) to become a much more significant player in the Texas market.

The Toyota advantage with the new 2014 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition is that, adding this new styling and branding, the 1794 Edition will be the first and only true all Texas pickup truck with it being manufactured on property near San Antonio which was once the oldest working ranch in Texas, the JLC Ranch, that provides the 1794 Edition legacy name.

The 1794 Edition name comes from the founding year of the JLC ranch, 1794, when a young colonist from the Canary Islands, Juan Ignacio de Casanova, received a royal grant for a league of rolling pastureland between Leon Creek and the Medina River.

On this fertile land, he established El Rancho de la Purisima Concepcion, and later expanded his holdings to more than 24,000 acres.

Ignacio later defended San Antonio from Mexican revolutionary forces attempting to break away from Spain. He served briefly as the Spanish Provincial Governor of Texas before his death in October 1823. His son, Jose Ignacio Perez continued to ranch the land.

During the Texas Revolution, Perez remained loyal to the Mexican Government, placing his family on property along the Rio Grande. He continued to pay taxes on the ranch, which helped him reclaim the land when he returned in 1846.

The Texas Republic recognized only the original land grant of 4,000 acres. This was passed on to Perez's descendants as the JLC Ranch until it was acquired by Toyota in 2003 for the first (and only) pickup truck plant in Texas, the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Company.

The 2014 Tundra 1794 Edition will share all of the upgraded attributes of the new 2014 Tundra line including a more striking exterior and new bold and substantially improved interiors with new features and functionality using the latest technology available from Toyota that is executed in premium level materials and workmanship throughout. The reliable and proven power trains that have already made Tundra one of the most powerful trucks in the market will power the upgraded Tundra models including the new 1794 Edition.

The 1794 Edition will reflect a Texas-and-western-lifestyle theme and include exclusive premium saddle brown leather seating with embossed leather and ultra-suede accents. Matching soft-touch materials will also accent the shift console, the front and rear door trim, and the instrument panel.

The 1794 Edition will also include an array of standard features that includes heated and ventilated front seats, JBL audio and Entune and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Additional features will include manual headlamp leveling and standard LED Daytime Running Lights.

It will also come standard with a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory and a four-way power passenger’s seat, both with heat and ventilation, power moon roof, parking sonar, and Display Audio with Navigation.

The 1794 Edition will ride on all-new 20-inch alloy wheels, have a standard backup camera and a tow capacity of 10,400 pounds when equipped with the tow package.

Be aware that we were also told that the 1794 Edition that will be shown may not have the interior available for viewing. We understand that Toyota is giving it some last tweaks and touches before production to ensure that it best reflects the spirit of Texas as built by Texans on the historic JLC Ranch property. We can tell you we have had a glimpse and it will be worthy of the 1794 Edition branding.
