Town Criers Present Petition to Congressman DeSantis’ Office
Members of the Town Criers, a Committee of the Saint Augustine Tea Party (SATP), presented Congressman Ron DeSantis’ staff, at his St. Augustine office, a petition to redress First Amendment violations as imposed by the Department of Interior. It will be recalled that over a two-year period the Town Criers ’First Amendment rights were routinely violated six times by the Park Rangers at the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine Florida. The issue, on a local level, has largely been resolved thanks to the timely efforts of Park Superintendent, Gordon Wilson, the Town Criers reported. Members of the SATP met with Park authorities on July 18, 2013 to resolve the issue.
From various sources it is apparent to the Criers that the restrictions on the First Amendment were applied in accordance with directives from the Department of Interior in Washington. Currently, the Tea Party is being targeted nationally by the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Internal Revenue Service. Now it appears that Tea Parties are being targeted by the Department of Interior, too. It is becoming clear that the executive branch of the federal government is attacking the rights of the people as guaranteed by the ‘Bill of Rights’. These attacks are taking place at nearly every federal property throughout the country, and even on college campuses.
The petition presented to Congressman DeSantis was a large document, approximately three feet wide and twelve feet long. The Town Criers admit that it was a bit theatrical, but the point, being that this is a big issue, was made very clear. It was used to get attention. However, the issue is very serious. An electronic text was also provided. The Petition of Redress calls for a Congressional investigation of the Department of the Interior (DOI) and subsidiary departments of the DOI, like the National Park Service. Free Speech Zone and so called 1st Amendment Areas violate the ‘Bill of Rights’ and, in particular, Freedom of Speech and Assembly. The Town Criers have a scheduled meeting with Rep. DeSantis on August 22, 2013, to discuss the petition.
“Government staffers and employees believe ‘executive orders’ and regulations to be superior to the document which created the federal government. It is the Tea Party’s job to demonstrate otherwise,” stated a Town Crier spokesman
