Tove Lo's 'Habits' soars

What's currently going viral in the “dark pop” music world? Tove Lo is a singer/songwriter from Stockholm, Sweden. Her song “Habits (Stay High)” is a hit single on her new album “Truth Serum”. It has 6 million views on Youtube and over 3 million streams on Soundcloud. Why is it so popular? It's an honest retelling about something that many people might be embarrassed to talk about. She sings about her tales of sexual promiscuity to numb the pain of a recent break-up. Like it or not, this is relevant to many people in the 20-something culture.

In this music video, Tove Lo talks about her daily routine and we get a clothing change montage, too. She heads out to some bars and engages in several make-out sessions. In some scenes it looks like she's having a fun time. However, she looks sleepy or depressed through much of the day. It comes to a head when she starts crying in the bathroom.

Tove Lo is actually her stage name. Her given name is Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson. She is a graduate from the Rytmus Music School in Sweden. You may have seen her at the South By Southwest festival this year or on Late Night with Seth Meyers. If you missed that, she tells us a little bit about herself and her music on Youtube here. She will be adding more dates to her tour in the US, so keep an eye on her website, Facebook and Twitter accounts for the latest updates.

Her EP “Truth Serum” is available on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon for purchase or preview. The name of the album says it all. She tells the whole story about her experiences with a relationship. Listen to it and see what all the buzz is about.
