The 96th Queen of the Rose Parade, Ana Marie Acosta, took her place with the Royal Court in the 125th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2014. The float on which the Court rode was announced by the Pasadena City College Herald Trumpets, who have heralded the Queen and Court in every Rose Parade since the 1970s.

Queen Ana wore a pearl crown designed by Mikimoto and she and the Rose Princesses wore Mikimoto pearl necklaces and Tadashi gowns. Macy’s, the float sponsor, provided wardrobes for all the young women.

The six Rose Princesses are Sarah Elizabeth Hansen, Kayla Diyana Johnson-Granberry, Jamie Ann Kwong, Katherine Diane Lipp, Elyssia Hadi Widjaja, Elizabeth Katie Woolf. The trumpeters and drummer are an elite group of musicians. More than 70 auditioned for the nine trumpet positions, and 30 for the solo snare. Director Kevin Brown has led the group, which plays at many events involving the Royal Court, for 31 years.

More than 6,000 roses were used in the decoration of the float, along with white gerberas and maiden hair fern. The crown canopy was created with crisp white sweet rice with pearls of lunaria and accents of white beans.
