On Sunday October 20 the CHNA is having a tour of California Heights Home and Gardens. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at Longfellow School, 3800 Olive Ave, Long Beach. Guest speaker, John Brinkmann, fouder and publisher of American Bungalow Magazine will emphasize the virtues, livability and charm of small town living at 10 a.m, followed by the tour of five historic homes and two lovely gardens beginning at 11. a.m. Sweet Lucie’s vintage ice cream truck’s organic ice cream, two restored iconic Helm’s Bakery trucks featuring local Sweet & Saucy Bakery treats, antique autos, and local home improvement and restoration resources will also be featured.
Guests can walk or bike along the tour as bicycle racks will be provided at each location, courtesy of Bikeable Communities Long Beach, and the Cal Heights Trolley will provide free service picking up and dropping off participants during the day. The cost is $25 paid at the door and includes not only the tour but a Cal Heights local dining discount card and a brochure with home portraits by Ellen Kirk.
The California Heights District is bordered by Bixby Rd, Wardlow Rd, Cherry Avenue, and Atlantic Ave. It was officially designated a historic district in 1990, by the Long Beach City Council.
