And the best destination to travel in Latin America is... Mexico City! This is according to the discerning readers of the Travel+Leisure magazine, who also ranked the Mexican capital as the world's number 9 for vacations.

Mexico City is with no doubt a great place to spend a few days or even a complete month traveling in the town and nearby, because it has everything to enjoy: archaeological sites, cultural events, theaters, attractions, museums, nightlife, outdoor activities, as well as some of the best hotels and restaurants of the world, among other tourism and leisure activities.

However, although Mexico City was nominated this year a better place to travel than New Orleans or New York, the Travel+Leisure's poll shows people worldwide would prefer to visit Istanbul or Barcelona.

Mexico City has a great potential to be the best town for vacations in the world. It is an architectural jewel and a modern metropolis at the same time, but visitors often face street protests that block traffic, as well as pickpocketing and phone's robbery at open and indoors public places.

Mexico - hashtagged in social media as #CDMX - became a luxury travel destination in a few recent years, but some urban infrastructure and services, like public transportation, for instance, are below visitors' requirements, if they want to move out of the traditional tourist routes.

Other cities that ranked above Mexico, like Barcelona, have comfortable and safe public transportation, which allow visitors to travel fast and easily anywhere in their metropolitan area, at a medium-low cost.

Mexico City is the safest city for tourists in Latin America, but since it is a huge metropolis, transportation out of the downtown area may be complicated, and in a few cases venturesome, if the visitors do not have an all-inclusive trip, or if they do not rent a car.

So, if you plan to visit Mexico City for the first time, it is a good idea to use the double-decker bus tour service named Turibus, that is one of the best options to travel safely around the city, even at night. This private company has created different tour routes with cheap fees per day (less than US$50). Some tour routes include meals in selected restaurants.

Now, visitors who have been to Mexico City before, usually wish to go beyond traditional tours to explore new options for more fun. In this case, it's always worth hiring a professional tourist guide or to get assistance from your hotel’s concierge. Foresight to move in the city increases enjoyment in any trip at the amazing Mexican capital.
