The Low Country Master Gardener Association will have its third annual Educational Tour of Master Gardens on Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 10 AM to 4 PM, according to a press release from the organization.
Attendees will learn to take maximum gardeners advantage of the local sub-tropical climate. The Tour is designed to appeal to visitors, recent people transplants and long term residents who will be able to see what grows in the local climate and be able to ask how, where and why it grows.
Seven private Master Gardens will be on tour and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions. The gardens are located at private homes in the Hilton Head Island, SC area.
Proceeds from the tour will support the 24 educational and beautification projects sustained by the Lowcountry Master Gardener Association.
Tickets ($15 in advance) may be purchased at Burke’s Pharmacy, Bruno’s Nursery, The Garden Gate, The Greenery, The Green Thumb Nursery, Markel’s Gift Shop, Beauty & the Beach Salon, Plant Folks Nursery, Sunshine Nursery and Buds And Blooms. On the day of the tour, tickets will be available for $20.00 at Hilton Head High School.
Plants, related vendors, garden white elephants and a gardening CD/DVD will be available for sale at Hilton Head High School from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. Plants will be available for purchase and baked continental breakfast items will be on sale from 8:30 AM, and lunch from 11:00 AM.
The Low Country Master Gardener Association is a non-profit volunteer organization that engages in projects and activities which promote and foster community enrichment in the areas of horticulture and ecology.
Master Gardeners receive a minimum of 40 hours instruction and core training in soils, plant nutrition, basic botany, plant pathology, entomology, and all types of gardening, landscape design and several other related subjects.
