Tour Hall captured the $47,100 Cardinal Stake on May 28 at Balmoral Park, in rein to Chicago’s top reinsman, Dave Magee in a seasonal best mark of 1:56.1.
The Cardinal is the first of many top stakes for 3-year-old, Illinois -bred diagonally-bred specialists.
The gelded son of American Native, who is conditioned by Mike Brink, has already won the Betzotic Stake for his age and gait, as well as the Speedy Rodney Stake. As a freshman in 2013, he earned $73,301 from four wins, three seconds and a third in 13 starts, and took a mark of 2, 1:57.3 at Springfield, IL.
Owned by Brink & Loren Tournear, Tour Hall finished a whisker ahead of the hard-trying Fox Valley Veto (John Delong) at the wire to prevail.
Tour Hall took the lead at the start, flying through an opening panel of :28.4. He then was content to take a back seat to Big Bill Breeze (Dale Hiteman) through quarters of :58.4 and 1:28.3, before posting a :27.1 final brush to earn the victory.
Brink also bred the brown gelding, who has seasonal earnings of $36,550 from three wins and a second in four starts. Tour Hall’s career bankroll now stands at $109,851 from a 7-4-1 record in 17 starts.
Tour Hall is the second foal out of the Broadway Hall mare Broadway And Fifth, and has a half-brother in the gelding Justice And Fifth (by Justice Hall) 2, 1:58.3M, a two-race winner of $8,595.
