On Friday, Stage 13 of the Tour de France enters Vosges, Eastern France's renowned wine country, and home of the Grandes Distilleries Peureux, makers of Peureux Perfect 1864 Vodka.
Distilled using wheat from the Brie-Champagne region, Peureux Perfect 1864's exceptional smoothness mirrors that of French rivals Ciroc and Grey Goose, oh yes, and Kirkland--not a rival so much, but still a darn fine vodka.
In honor of le Tour, and to celebrate this phenomenal wine, champagne, vodka, cognac and liqueur producing country, today's drink special is the Stage 13 cocktail:

Stage 13
2oz Peureux Perfect 1864
1/2oz Grand Marnier
1/2oz Chateau Monet Pomari
2oz cranberry juice
1/2oz lime juice
lime garnish
In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients with ice. Shake and pour into a martini glass, or enjoy over ice. Lime garnish may be squeezed into drink if found to be overly sweet.
Chateau Monet Pomari is a pomegranate flavored liqueur available at Beverages & More, and any of your more comprehensive specialty stores. In its absence, Chambord may be used, maintaining the French ingredients, while producing an equally tasty, if slightly more purple cocktail.

Thank you for turning me on to this, it is really fascinating,
"...French rivals Ciroc and Grey Goose, oh yes, and Kirkland--not a rival so much, but still a darn fine vodka..."
I never heard of Kirkland so I Googled it and lo and behold, the word is, "Kirkland is Costcos private label vodka made by...Grey Goose"! I couldnt get confirmation but it seems generally accepted.
This reminds me of when the brewery in Nassua Bahamas would make Guinness, then make Becks(in a clear bottle and truly a great beer, somehow better than the fine brew from Germany) and then Kalik, the Bahamian beer. This is called contract brewing and may be what is going on in Cognac.
If only i could get to a Costcos!

Thank you for that link, Chris, it really is so interesting. And it is still not resolved whether Kirkland is in fact, a clone of Grey Goose. Unfortunately i am nowhere near a Costco so i will have to wait before I jump into that debate. We will probably get a definitive leak from someone in the industry before long.
I did find the Sobieski you recently reviewed, sold locally and it is surprisingly well made and low priced. My girlfriend likes it but prefers other vodkas straight up. All our other tasters, after giving it a swivel, say, 2 thumbs up.
thought the link would do it, but let me be totally clear:
No, Kirkland is not made by Grey Goose. They are made independently, but utilize a similar water source.
...does that say girlfriend?
Gotta love me some Grey Goose. However, when it comes to alcohol, I'm more of a scotch man. But there is something about vodka that just makes me feel warm.
Got something to say?
