Tough weekend for teams around Tampa Bay

The St. Petersburg Pelicans and the Tampa Barbarians hosted teams at home over the weekend, while the Tampa Bay Krewe traveled down to Miami. All three local clubs suffered defeats against their opponents.

The Pelicans hosted Orlando, currently tied with Naples as the top Division II team in Florida, at their home field of Coquina Key State Park Saturday afternoon. Despite putting forth a strong effort, St. Petersburg lost the game 55 to 5. On a brighter note for the Pelicans, they are in the process of building a Pelicans U-19 team for players on the Pinellas side of Tampa Bay. More information will be provided on this as it becomes available.

The Tampa Barbarians U-19s played two games against the Naples U-19s Saturday at Cuscaden Park. The girls played at 12:30 PM, followed by the boys’ match at 1:30 in the afternoon. Naples defeated the Barbarians in both games. However, the new home pitch for the Barbarians is more centrally located in the Tampa Bay Area than the old field, which allows more local residents the opportunity to watch the young ruggers develop their game skills.
