New York (August 1, 2011) – Approximately 20,000 participants will attempt to conquer Squaw Valley Ski Mountain and its 9,000 feet elevation the weekend of September 17-18, 2011 for Tough Mudder “Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet.” Not your typical spirit-crushing ‘endurance’ road race, Tough Mudder is a ten-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces to be the ultimate test of strength, grit, stamina, and camaraderie.
Tough Mudder features more than 20 military-style obstacles, such as a run through a gauntlet of 4-foot-high flames called “Fire Walker”, oiled up monkey bars called, “Funky Monkey”, and a field of 10,000-volt live wires called “Electroshock Therapy.” The event is not about finish times or winning a medal to show off. Simply completing a Tough Mudder is a badge of honor. On average, only 78% of participants finish a Tough Mudder event and with a course designed to be impossible to complete individually, 4/5 participants register with a team. Upon crossing the finish line, participants are handed a Dos Equis beer and coveted orange headband, and enjoy a rockin’ post party with live music and great local food.
Mudders range the spectrum from injured veterans to Wall Street traders to pageant queens to 81-year old grandfathers like Edwin Mighell, who completed Tough Mudder Colorado in June. Tough Mudder is more than just a weekend event – with a planned schedule of happy hours and training runs before and after the event, the Tough Mudder community is exploding into a cultural phenomenon. More than 1,000 diehard Mudders have even had the Tough Mudder logo permanently tattooed upon their bodies.
Tough Mudder is a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project and its mission to assist severely injured veterans. To date, Tough Mudder and its participants have raised more than $1.7 million for the Wounded Warrior Project. For more information, visitwww.toughmudder.com.
