The organizers billed it as "probably the toughest event on the planet." Tough? Yes. Toughest? Not really… (look up Badwater and Ironman.)
Overall, it was an amazing event, with challenging terrain and obstacles, where pushing yourself and your own boundaries came with rewards. Most of the 10,000 participants were excited, positive, trained and motivated. Unfortunately, there were a few thousand extra people on the course, which created two significant bottlenecks and slowed down the action significantly.
The hills were steep and plenty, the water was ice cold, the rocks were sharp, and that’s what made us happy. Earning my orange headband and drinking the beer at the finish made me even happier. It was a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
Now, the numbers (from by Garmin Forerunner 310XT GPS):
13.41 miles run.
3161 calories burned.
6200’ beginning elevation.
3487’ total elevation gained.
133 bpm avg heartbeat.
4:10:27 moving time (with ~1hr in bottlenecks and traffic)
